On December 27th I tried to transfer money to a friend abroad via Western Union. I did this online and I made a bank transfer from Handelsbanken to Western Union. The transaction was not approved by Western Union claiming security grounds and they sent me an email that they would refund me in 7 days. It has been over 2 weeks now and I still got no refund. I called numerous times, sent emails and raised a complaint. Each time I was told different information. They also insist that I send them my Bank Statement to show the money hasn't been refunded. I spoke to my Bank and they see no grounds for such request, they say WU should be able to see if the money has been refunded just from the transaction ID itself within their own systems. I finally got someone from WU via phone and email to acknowledge there is a delay is processing my refund yet they still insist I send them a Bank Statement in order to assist me. They claim they will carry out an investigation and in 20 days they will come back to me with a status of the investigation on why the refund hasn't been processed. My question is: is it legal for WU to keep my money for so long for a service they didn't even perform? Am I not entitled to an immediate refund? Do they have the right to require a Bank Statement from me? What legal action can I take against them to get my money back? Thanks in advance,
